Portrait of Rebecca Velo

The backstory

Writing under her own name.

Rebecca grew up in southern Arizona, the daughter of a Cuban immigrant. She studied at the University of Arizona and the University of Phoenix, with a background in political science and mental health counseling, and spent most of her career in project management.

For a time she wrote under a pen name, worried about retaliation for her views. In 2022 she put her own name to her work — and has written that way ever since.

She is active in her children’s PTA, and her writing returns again and again to free speech, education and the gap between progressive “inclusion” and the people it leaves out.
